ABOUT US
Strike A Chord Inc is a registered charity in Australia and the USA that supports seriously ill and disadvantaged children who need inspiration and a distraction from their illness.
Our Mission:
UNITED TO SHARE THE GIFT OF MUSIC WITH
SERIOUSLY ILL AND DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN
The gift of music can offer a seriously ill or disadvantaged child comfort, hope and companionship at the very time they need it most. Strike A Chord makes a difference in seriously ill children’s lives through donating instruments and professional music tutoring. For kids who have a dream to play on stage, we offer them the chance to play live with a band, and even record music through our unique Music 4 Life program.
Strike a Chord helps the families of seriously ill kids too by offering financial support through our Kids Helping Kids program. Please note: Currently only applicable to Australian residents.
To make all this possible, Strike A Chord gathers from the community, the corporate sector, and industry groups. To raise funds we collect donations, offer sponsorships, and host a multitude of fundraising events and actitvities – all carefully planned and carried out through the year. Donate to Strike a Chord.
Behind Strike a Chord is a committee of hard working and dedicated people who work hand in hand with our Strike a Chord Ambassadors – music industry professionals and business leaders who bring their experience and dedication to Strike a Chord.
It’s these people, and the public who donate to Strike a Chord who make it possible to help the many seriously ill and disadvantaged kids we aid each year.
Strike a Chord is a registered charity and has a Charitable Collections licence in Australia and the USA.

More about Strike a Chord:
"The only universal language is music" - John Zaccaria
At the young age of 33, John Zaccaria was diagnosed with rectal cancer. Through the skill and care of his surgeon Dr Nigel Barwood and his medical staff at St John of God Hospital in Murdoch WA, John survived his cancer and is now cancer free.
During his recovery from cancer, John was amazed by some of the people he met – medical professionals who were dedicated to their work, and made a difference every day. He noticed that despite great medical advances and funding being pumped into our health system, there was never enough that could be done.
Lack of funding and financial support for hospitals and care facilities was a well known issue, but even beyond those, someone needed to consider the sufferers and their families who need emotional support that money and medical equipment just can’t give.
It was noticing this gap in the emotional care of ill children that inspired John to found the Strike a Chord for Cancer Foundation in March 2008 in Perth, Western Australia. In 2011 the foundation shortened its name to Strike a Chord after John realised that it wasn’t just children with cancer that needed an emotional lift – that same inspiration is a benefit to any seriously ill child.
In January 2011 the USA chapter of Strike A Chord was officially opened with a dedicated committee of people based in New York, Nashville and Boston, and granted its charitable licence.
